15 Moments that Sum-Up Being Part of a Marketing Team for Foodies

15 moments 1170x630

The most common assumption we face when it comes to Halalfoodhunt is that people tend to think that our job only involves eating and we often get the envious sigh or that "I want to do that too!" kind of reactions. But what you need to know is that even though our job primarily revolves around food, it's not actually all about eating. For one, we do not eat, review and repeat - although that is one job we admire for those who can manage a successful food blog and sweat through those times when the stomach cannot take it anymore - and two, we can't pay off bills with food.

Beyond this illusion of the team going on endless free-feeding sessions, there's a lot more sweat and frustration going on behind the scenes too. But since there are too many cogs in this wheel, let's just start off with a glimpse of the sales and marketing team slash communications team. Wait, your teams overlap? Yes, all of us are almost ambidextrous by now.

1. You can say it starts every time we begin a new marketing proposal for our merchants.

Each cycle always begins in an uncannily similar manner. We have a brainy meeting and a flood of ideas pour forth. Its fun and everybody throws out ideas (crazy or otherwise) but then, things get real and you actually have to communicate this borderline-insane idea to your clients and convince them that it will work. Somehow in those moments, it's eerily not that much different from those times in school when someone churns out a wild idea and tries to brainwash the whole group that it's the ONE. Except this time, you're trying it out on the real world and suddenly, my vocabulary becomes limited and what was a brilliant plan in my mind translates into "you know that...that. That thing."

2. When you finally write it out, only to re-write it another 10 times because you're paranoid and you vaguely remember learning that word order matters.

Okay, so after awhile, you manage to spit it out. But it's only the beginning of your mental struggle. Plus you're a masochist, so you re-read every word, every paragraph and re-arrange and edit and delete.

Delete, delete, delete! (ft. Sham, our Food Connoisseur / Photographer)

After some point, you've managed to run out of synonyms from the online thesaurus and brain juice is seriously running dry so you finally decide that it's a decent piece except you ask a colleague to vet just in case (because remember, you're a masochist).

3. You're done! Finally! You click the "send" button and then you wait...and you wait...

You finalize your masterpiece and with determination, you send it out! [caption id="attachment_4375" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]3 It's coming... (Featuring Zie, the Chomper a.k.a Digital Marketing Exec)[/caption] Eagerly, you await the replies. On the first day, you are hopeful that they would be receptive to the idea. On the second day, there's no reply but you think to yourself, " Nah, they're just busy." By the third day, it starts sinking in that there is not going to be a reply... 4. Slowly as you spiral into depression, suddenly the long awaited for *PING* comes!

[caption id="attachment_4379" align="aligncenter" width="750"]IMG_DD953ACE7FCE-1 YES! (Featuring Zie, the Chomper a.k.a Digital Marketing Exec)[/caption] It's here! Yes! There is hope again! It doesn't matter that you haven't read it because any response still makes up for no response.

5. Except that *PING* becomes a *PING*, *PING* and then it becomes a  multiple *PING*, *PING*, *PING* and BAM, you're drowning in your inbox!

6. Sometime on the tenth email, you also get an epiphany that your inbox is not getting cleared anytime soon.

Alright, let's do this! You get an email and you get an email. [caption id="attachment_4382" align="aligncenter" width="750"]IMG_C37E36AA07EE-1 YOU get an email! (Featuring Saf, the Buzz Hustler a.k.a Marketing and Communications Manager)[/caption] [caption id="attachment_4385" align="aligncenter" width="750"]IMG_F7C342BD5AA6-1 (Featuring Saf, the Buzz Hustler a.k.a Marketing and Communications Manager)[/caption] [caption id="attachment_4386" align="aligncenter" width="750"]IMG_6E8494DA7E00-1 (Featuring Saf, the Buzz Hustler a.k.a Marketing and Communications Manager)[/caption]

7. Yet even after all that, they still call you up to ask you questions you ALREADY covered in the proposal.

Notwithstanding that proposal took a lot of blood, sweat and tears from you and still, they call you up to ask you about all the things that was already in that same document. 8. But the every once in awhile, they surprise you with a "love letter" for the team that makes all your frustrations fade away and warm inside.

[caption id="attachment_4390" align="aligncenter" width="750"]8.1. meme Awww, pish! (Featuring Zie, the Chomper a.k.a Digital Marketing Exec)[/caption] Once in a while, their replies aren't what you expected. Sometimes, they drop you a word of support or a whole essay just to say thank you and in that moment, you get reminded that all your struggles are worth it and that your work means something to someone else. Of course, you have to tell the WHOLE team so everyone can get that energy boost to keep everyone going! [caption id="attachment_4393" align="aligncenter" width="750"]8.2. meme I feel the same way too! (Featuring Zie, the Chomper a.k.a Digital Marketing Exec and Ain, our Graphic Artist slash UI/UX Designer)[/caption]

9. Although eating is not ALL we do, it is true that there will be times when the clients try to reward us by feeding us.

Food is the bread and butter for all our merchants after all, so we do get that they love us whenever they try to feed us. [caption id="attachment_4394" align="aligncenter" width="750"]9 I like food. If I feed you, you're special to me. (Featuring Saf, the Buzz Hustler a.k.a Marketing and Communications Manager)[/caption] It's also how we tend to say thank you or cheer up to each other. In an office of six girls, hormones can run rampant so when someone is moody, we usually attempt to feed them and it normally, fixes things. We may be girls but when it comes to food, even we get territorial. So you can bet that when I share, you mean something to me.

10. And then there's also that teensy problem of people trying to feed you when you have limited capacity.

Yes, getting food is awesome and I won't deny that I love it but there is only so much I can consume! We do reach saturation point quite often than not and worse of all when we don't want to waste it and it happens to be really good. [caption id="attachment_4395" align="aligncenter" width="750"]10. meme Why can't I eat somemore? (Featuring Ain, our Graphic Artist slash UI/UX Designer)[/caption] There are also times when one of us is fasting and good food comes our way... Yeah, why? Why do you do this to me!

11. Also you manage to convince yourself that one more bite won't make a difference...

We are also in constant denial about the expansion of our girth or the extra fullness of those cheeks because come on, YOLO guys. [caption id="attachment_4396" align="aligncenter" width="750"]11.meme What do you mean by round? I'm perfectly in shape. (Featuring Sham, our Food Connoisseur slash Photographer)[/caption]

12. Going back to work, there is also that time at the end of the month when we look back on the dozen plans we had in mind yet we've only managed to carry out a quarter of those plans.

At the start of the year, the team has a big meeting and we plot out a grand schedule of marketing campaigns.  Let's just add one more idea! We can do this! The year is beginning...There is so much time! [caption id="attachment_4397" align="aligncenter" width="750"]12.1. meme We can do this! (Featuring Zie, the Chomper a.k.a Digital Marketing Exec)[/caption] Yet as the months pass one after the other, plans get shelved in the grand scheme of things and by the time the dateline rolls around the corner, we've barely managed a quarter of what we planned.

13. We have a plan, they said. We are gonna do this, they said...

There is also the inevitable breakdown when everyone is too overwhelmed with the rush of things. As the chaos peaks, you eventually lose it until you get into a semi-catatonic state. [caption id="attachment_4398" align="aligncenter" width="750"]13. meme What's going on? What am I doing? Why am I doing this? (Featuring Saf, the Buzz Hustler a.k.a Marketing and Communications Manager)[/caption] And don't worry, this will happen to everyone at some point...

14. But after reviewing the campaigns that you did run, the upside is that it all worked out anyway and everything is on track after all.

Come evaluation, looking back you realise it wasn't that bad overall. The campaigns that the team managed did run well after all and everybody is quite happy. [caption id="attachment_4399" align="aligncenter" width="750"]14. meme (Featuring Sham, our Food Connoisseur slash Photographer)[/caption]

15. And you think to yourself, "Let's do this again!"

And in that moment of confidence,  you actually think that you want to do it again. [caption id="attachment_4400" align="aligncenter" width="750"]15. memejpeg (Featuring Saf, the Buzz Hustler a.k.a Marketing and Communications Manager)[/caption] And the vicious cycle continues. Nah, we're just kidding! It's not that bad and things go up and down but in the end, when plans work out for your team, you know it'll be worth it (or do you)...
