For the past one year, the girls at Halalfoodhunt have been on a hunt for food, as our name suggests. This year, we received more enquiries from our fans and friends on where they should be breaking fast this Ramadhan. Though we highly recommend you to break fast in the comforts of your home or at the mosque so that it would be easy for you to do your Taraweeh prayers, here are some of our top choices for you to break fast this Ramadan.

Butter Studio

Located on the busy street of Jalan Besar, Butter Studio definitely stands out from its neighbouring food and hawker centre. This flagship cafe and bakery is the only outlet apart from its three others that serves mains and side dishes. A quaint and homey cafe, Butter Studio’s choice of menu for Ramadhan is sure to let you have a very unique dining experience.

Known for their Speculoos Pancakes, Butter Studio also serves hearty mains like The Elvis Sliders and the Crabby Eggs Neptune. The Elvis Sliders are handmade beef burger patties served in between soft brioche-like buns, with a spread of peanut butter and topped with a sunny side up egg.

Only for the month of Ramadhan, Butter Studio has come up with a special menu that serves your family a decadent iftar meal, complete with a dessert of Salted Egg Pandan Madeleines.

Sri Sun Express

If you feel like heading somewhere closer to the heartlands with a hearty meal of Indian cuisine, then Sri Sun Express is for you! Nestled in the bustling neighbourhood near Kovan MRT, Sri Sun Express serves local favourites such as chicken rice, Indian rojak, naan and a variety of seafood dishes.

[caption id="attachment_616" align="alignnone" width="800"]srisunlowres-8 Srisun Express - Blk 212, Hougang Street 21 #01-343, Singapore 530212[/caption] [caption id="attachment_610" align="alignnone" width="800"]srisunlowres-2 Prawn Tikka from Srisun's North Indian Menu[/caption] [caption id="attachment_612" align="alignnone" width="800"]srisunlowres-4 Chicken Rice from Srisun's Local Menu[/caption] [caption id="attachment_615" align="alignnone" width="800"]srisunlowres-7 Srisun provides a diverse range of food to suit all tastebuds for affordable prices.[/caption]

The best part about heading to Sri Sun is that you could probably head there in your most comfortable pyjamas in the middle of the night after your Taraweeh prayers and enjoy some rojak and teh tarik with your family. While the naan is one of our favourite picks for mains, the tissue prata chocolate will surely make you fall in love with local food again. I mean, prata and chocolate - what can possibly go wrong?

Nearest mosque: En-Naeem Mosque, 120 Tampines Road, Singapore 535136

Sri Sun is located at Blk 212 Hougang Street 21 #01-343 Singapore 530212.

Koh Nangkham

This place is personally one of my favourites. I could go to Koh Nangkham every day and order the same thing over and over again. Apart from being very close to Masjid Sultan, this Southern Thai Cuisine restaurant only serves buffet style dinner during the month of Ramadhan. The buffet feast costs $18 per person, inclusive of drinks.

Having been around for 5 odd years, Koh Nangkham serves possibly the best halal Thai food in Singapore. True to the experience you get in Thailand, the service can get a bit sabai-sabai when orders are overwhelmed. But since ala carte orders are unavailable during Ramadan, you can be assured of fast and quality food being served.

Nearest mosque: Sultan Mosque at 3 Muscat Street

Koh Nangkham is located at 6 Jalan Kledek. Call 6392 2172 for reservations.

Rouse on Dunlop Street

Rouse is no longer a new kid on the block having been around for a year already! They celebrated their first anniversary back in April and they’ve changed their menu ever since. What’s lovely about this place is not just the amazing DIY interior of the place, but also the bubbly and fun service crew.

Apart from being the one of the places that serves great coffee, Rouse is known for their quirky Asian-Western-Mediterranean fusion menu. The salted egg roll calamari will tease your tastebuds with the sweet, salty and umami flavours. The crunch of the calamari combined with the softness of the roll bread, topped with the creamy salted egg yolk sauce will definitely awaken your palette. Another must-try is the egg-plant and beef lasagna which made its maiden debut earlier this Ramadhan.

Rouse’s Ramadan Specials are only available through reservations for the month of Ramadhan.

Nearest mosque: Abdul Ghafoor Mosque at 41 Dunlop Street Singapore 209369

Tang Tea House @ Simpang Bedok

Thanks to Tang Tea House, we can now enjoy cheap and halal Chinese cuisine. We especially love the fact the Tang tea House serves steamed goodies for the days when we don’t feel like rice, or fried things and heavy meals that make us think twice about our calories. I also love the fact that the owners take into consideration our praying needs when we  are dining there for dinner, which could be close to Maghrib timing. There is a mushollah provided in a corner of this coffee house so you don’t have to worry about rushing from the mosque or rushing home after your dinner.

Our favourites would be the choice of dim sums, especially the golden custard bun, and the char siew chicken pau. If you feel like having some Hainanese chicken rice, Tang Tea House serves quite a decent one.

Nearest mosque: Al-Taqua Mosque, 11A Jalan Bilal, Singapore 468862

Tang Tea House @ Simpang is located at 359 Bedok Road Singapore 469547. Call 6445 9100 for enquiries and reservations.
